On behalf of the 2010 Let Your Imagination Take Flight Conference Committee, I'd like to announce the editors and agents that will be taking individual appointments. Please note that more may be added in the coming weeks before the March 26-27, 2010 conference and we will post their names as we get them.

Editors:

Kathy Cottrell (Wild Rose Press)

I am the Senor Editor for the Last Rose of Summer line with the Wild Rose Press but I am happy to take pitches for all our lines. WRP only publishes romance fiction. We do not accept women's fiction, mystery/suspense with romantic elements or young adult.

We accept submissions in lengths of 7,500 to 100,000 words, and publish in electronic format as well as print in novels longer than 65,000 words. Our lines include contemporary, historical, erotica, inspirational, western contemporary and  fairy/ghosts/angels/time travel/vampires/werewolves. All levels of sexuality are accepted. I encourage anyone interested in Wild Rose Press to check out our website: www.thewildrosepress.com for submission guidelines.

Keyren Gerlach (Harlequin)

Since first signing on with Harlequin Silhouette in 2004, Keyren has had had the unique chance to work on many different imprints, from MIRA, Kimani Press and Red Dress Ink to HQN Books and LUNA Books. In her current position as Associate Editor for Silhouette Romantic Suspense, Keyren has more of a focus on discovering and developing talent on the series side of things, but continues to acquire for the single title program. Her author base includes rising stars of the romance genre and romance veterans alike, from Kristan Higgins to Carla Cassidy

Holly Schmidt (Ravenous Romance)

Holly Schmidt is the president and co-founder of Ravenous Romance . Launched in 2008, Ravenous Romance publishes ebooks and digital audiobooks at www.ravenousromance.com and an exclusive line of trade paperbacks with the Home Shopping Network, on which Holly appears to sell the books. Ravenous Romance has licensed the print rights to traditional print publishers to approximately one-third of the 130 novels and anthologies it has published in the last year, including deals with St. Martin ’s Press and Alyson Books. Holly is also the co-founder and president of Hollan Publishing, Inc., a non-fiction book packager, and has spent more than fifteen years as an executive in the trade publishing industry. I’m interested in full-length erotic romance novels, especially m/m and kinky historicals.

Agents:

Eileen Fallon (Fallon Literary Agency)

Eileen Fallon is proud to announce that The Fallon Literary Agency will be celebrating its twentieth anniversary this summer. Prior to establishing her own business, Eileen was an agent at Lowenstein Associates, and before that, an editor at what is now the Berkley Publishing Group. Her editorial background has served her well in her developing a small, select group of commercial fiction clients known for their strong writing and for being favorites of readers, editors, and their fellow writers.
The best way to understand the sort of material Eileen takes on for representation is to read her clients’ work. The following are merely two examples. Rhode Island’s Patricia Coughlin had her first novel in recent years published this past January in a Berkley Sensation trade paperback. The Lost Enchantress is the tale of a woman blessed with an ancient magic she’s been trying to reject since she was fifteen. Patricia was unpublished when she and Eileen met years ago at the New England RWA conference. Maggie Shayne has long been a ground-breaking paranormal romance writer whose novels of romantic suspense have also been bestsellers. Her suspense trilogy, Secrets of Shadow Falls, will be published this summer by Mira.

Diana Fox (Fox Literary Agency)

Diana Fox is the owner of Fox Literary, LLC, a boutique literary agency specializing in commercial fiction along with select works of literary fiction and non-fiction with broad commercial appeal. Before founding Fox Literary in 2007, Diana spent several years learning the business of publishing at Writers House. Since then, Fox Literary has represented a steadily growing client list, including the agency's first New York Times and USA Today bestsellers. Diana studied English literature and creative writing at Smith College, and grew up in the suburbs of New York City; she now lives in Manhattan, where she has no room for dogs or cats as the books have taken over the apartment.

At this time, Diana is primarily seeking submissions in the following genres: romance, young adult, science fiction/fantasy, historical fiction, thrillers, and graphic novels. On the nonfiction side, memoirs, biography, and smart narrative nonfiction are all welcome. Fox Literary does NOT represent screenplays, poetry, category Westerns, non-literary horror, Christian/inspirational, or children's picture books.

To learn more about what kind of submissions Diana is looking for and how to query Fox Literary, please visit www.foxliterary.com.

Victoria Horn (Liza Dawson Associates)

Victoria handles audio rights for the agency and is currently building her own client list. Victoria's interests include YA fiction, adult women's fiction, romance, and literary fiction. She is a sucker for snappy contemporary fiction and lush historical novels. Victoria is open to narrative nonfiction, travel, memoir, pop culture or social science perspectives on current debates. She looks for sharp humor in unexpected places, a story that places her firmly in another world, and characters she can't leave behind. She loves strong voices and high concept hooks, or beautifully written stories about timeless subjects. Victoria comes to Liza Dawson Associates after two years with Trident Media Group as an assistant to Jenny Bent, Scott Miller and Ellen Levine.

2010 Let Your Imagination Take Flight Conference

Greetings Everyone!

As the 2010 Conference Chair, I’m pleased to let you know planning has begun for the New England Chapter of RWA’s 2010 Let Your Imagination Take Flight Conference. Once again, our conference will be held at the Sheraton Tara Framingham Hotel and Conference Center in Framingham, Massachusetts, March 26-27, 2010.

I am proud to announce that our Keynote speaker will be New York Times and USA Today Bestselling Author, MaryJanice Davidson.

Creator of the “Undead” series and credited with starting a whole new genre: Paranormal Chick Lit, MaryJanice is a prolific writer who is published in paranormal romance, young adult and non-fiction. She has several books scheduled for release in 2010 and an exciting new series from St. Martin’s Press called ME, MYSELF, and WHY.

Born in a small town in the Midwest, and having to move often because she was an Air Force brat, she grew up with a dream, Miss Congeniality in high school.  Later she fell in love with a guy who lived half a country away, so she we went out to Boston for a bit, and finally settled in Minnesota, land of ten thousand mosquitoes. She started writing when she was thirteen, sold her first book at twenty-nine, and made the best-seller list when she was thirty-four. Learn more about MaryJanice as the planning progresses, we are looking forward to having her with us in March!

We are also proud to announce that our Luncheon speaker will be NEC’s own Barbara Keiler.

Writing under the pen name Judith Arnold, Barbara Keiler is the author of eighty-six published novels.  She has been a multiple finalist for RWA’s Rita Award, and she’s won several Reviewer's Choice Awards from RT Book Reviews, including awards for Best Harlequin American, Best Superromance, Best Series Romance, and, most recently, Best Contemporary Romance Novel.  Her novel Love In Bloom’s was honored as one of the best books of the year by Publishers Weekly.  Her Superromance Barefoot In The Grass has appeared on the recommended reading lists of cancer support groups and hospitals.  Her current release is Hope Street, a single-title trade paperback from Harlequin.

A Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Smith College, Barbara holds a master's degree in creative writing from Brown University.  She has received writing fellowships from the Shubert Foundation and the National Endowment for the Arts, and has taught at colleges and universities around the country.  Barbara and her husband live outside Boston.  She has been a proud member of NEC-RWA for twenty years.

The committee is also excited about 2010’s Extra! Workshop speaker, New York Times Best-selling Author Brenda Novak!

Brenda has three novels coming out this summer—WHITE HEAT, BODY HEAT and KILLER HEAT, all part of her brand new Department 6 Series. She also runs an annual on-line auction for diabetes research every May at www.brendanovak.com. To date, she’s raised over $770,000. Brenda considers herself lucky to be a mother of five and married to the love of her life.  The first 100 registrants for 2010’s conference will have the opportunity to hear Brenda’s workshop, Emotion: The Heart of the Novel. So make sure you save the date, March 26-27, 2010 and keep checking for updates on when registration will open.

As has been the tradition of the Let Your Imagination Take Flight conference, 2010 will feature informative, creative and motivating workshops, excellent meals, Friday evening entertainment and dessert, individual editor and agent appointments, and our annual Bookfair for Literacy on Saturday afternoon.

Later in August, we will post a Call for Workshop Proposals here, in NEC’s September newsletter, and also to various RWA chapters. Once the call is officially announced, our Workshop Chair, Kathye Thornton, will welcome proposals until October 1, 2010.

Now let me take a moment to introduce the 2010 Let Your Imagination Take Flight Conference  Committee.
